Applying the Integral Model to Public Health

An earlier paper introduced the integral theory developed by philosopher Ken Wilber to suggest how an integrative approach might help public health deal more effectively with the multiple challenges now emerging.

In this paper we apply the integral model to the example of the well-documented loss of well-being in affluent society. As our readers will now be aware, there is accumulating evidence that people are suffering from increasing levels of depression and anxiety whilst average levels of well-being, happiness and life satisfaction appear static or declining. We describe the conventional approaches to this emerging public health problem which could be applied, and contrast this with an integrative approach.
