Environmental Ethics

‘Those who consume blindly are not free.’

  (Cafaro 2001)

Philosopher Philip Cafaro is one of a number of contemporary philosophers with an interest in bringing Aristotle’s concept of ‘virtue ethics’ to contemporary debates about the nature of the good life. Cafaro uses the concept of environmental virtue ethics as a means of developing a framework for well-being and the good life, in the context of growing environmental damage, and for making informed judgements about our own consumption. This paper explains his views in a little more depth.
