In this paper we set out to explore how cultural transitions generate changes of worldview and how this might help us articulate a fifth wave of public health and to move beyond modernity itself. As part of this enquiry, we revisit the characters we met earlier – Magda, Martha, Marion, Mary and Mel –viewing the worlds of their respective eras and how ideas and consciousness (ways of thinking and being) have changed radically over time.
